A Green Business District

Maybe you can consider that whole Hong Kong is one big business town is, but between the high skyscrapers of international companies as HBSC, Citi Bank, Lippo Lippo you feel a the real business atmosphere. I saw a lot of young people standing outside the entrance of buildings smoking, calling or talking with other people. You could feel everybody is busy.

What I really like between the high skyscrapers are the many parks and threes, like Hong Kong Park and Battery Park. I saw a lot op businessmen lunching and reading articles on a bench. Seems to be a very relaxing atmosphere.

Grappas Cellar

The Dutch people have definitely won the world cup if you only look how each one showed their love for Holland. The whole place was  coloured orange and the restaurant served classic Dutch food and Heinekens (bitterballs, frikandel). The atmosphere was lively and good, only it’s a shame that we didn’t won the cup.

The Light show

Before I went to the Avenue of Stars, that’s the best spot to watch the light show I was a little be sceptical. After 3 minutes I left the spot, because it was a little bit Cheesy. Only one building (HBSC) had some cool light effects. Al thought the laser show was cool, but not spectacular. I won’t recommend it to do it.

World Cup Final in HK
The Netherlands are going to win the World Cup and Sneijders is going to score. Never thought before that I will watch the game in Hong Kong. Exactly I should be in Shanghai, but that’s not going to happen because I didn’t receive my visum yet. ITonight’s plan is to watch the game with Dutch Community (6500 strong) in Grappas Cellar in Jardine House.

Barista Badge is worthless in HK
I just checked at a local Starbucks company in Hong Kong to get my double Latte or $1 discount like Starbucks promise. In fact the employees never heard of it and didn’t want to give me anything. What’s the point now of the reward and loyalty system if it’s dedicated to the united States. I can remember an article in NYT where Starbucks says they will reward globally loyal customers. There is no rewarding in Hong Kong, this is one big disappointment.

New Hong Kong

First though about Hong Kong is that it’s a business hub pur sang. All the international banks as HBSC, CTI, Goldman Sachs are proving that fact is true. Something that you don’t expect has a bigger impact on Hong Kong: Shoppingmalls. There aren’t a few giant stores around the city, but it’s a crawling web of long hallways above the streets from one shoppingmall to another shoppingmall

I also thought Shanghai is a city with brand new skyscrapers and high-end shopping malls. It turns out that Hong Kong is going one step father. There is lesser space, that’s why all the building are packed in the tiny little street. For that reason many building ()which I saw) have an one-in-all concept with gym/pool in the basement,  shopping center on the first 5 floors, hotel spread over 20 floors, restaurant and bars on top of that.

Peak’s Sky terrace 19:00

I stayed there for 3 hours to see the sunset and slowly saw the lights pop up of each building. I saw a lot helicopters flying by and land on different rooftops of hotels and office buildings. I was wondering what kind of people were flying, where are they going and doing this evening.

Old Hong Kong

Felix

Hong Kong is famous for there many views. I went to Bar Felix at the 28th floor to explorer the scenic. It was very quiet, but nevertheless the view was amazing. Bar Felix is decorated by designer Philippe Starck (one of my favourite) and is definitely worth to visited. Drinks are not expensive, expect the Champagne (HK$180 for a glass).

London of Asia

After a delay of 2,5 hours I landed at Hong Kong. It took me another 1 hour to get through the immigration, because it was very busy. I have taken the express train to the city and directly saw so a couple of beautiful sceneries like the harbour. At central station I took a classic red cab to the embassy and saw a lot of old double deckers in the streets of Hong Kong. If you walk down the street you see the same hedges, yellow lines, luxurious shops and everybody drives on the left side. Just like London!

"I will stay a day longer in HK. Shall I change my blog name from ‘72 Hours in Hong Kong’ into ‘96 Hours in Hong Kong’ ????"

Pudong Airport Lounge

Currently I’m in a Lounge waiting for check-in. The trip to Pudong airport was very and have faced no problems at all.
